Nanci Stevens has released her long-awaited memoir, The Bribri and The Bridge: Tales from Life with the Indigenous of Costa Rica, published by Your Best Publishing LLC and available in paperback on Lulu.com and as an e-book at Amazon.com
about the book
How Nanci fell in love with Costa Rica & founded The Bridge with husband Barry Stevens
In The Bribri and The Bridge, Nanci describes how she fell in love with Costa Rica and moved there for good, using all of her and Barry’s money in eighteen months to help those in need, yet somehow keeping El Puente’s lights on and the love flowing long after. Also an accomplished visual artist, she combines her signature wit and wisdom with photos and paintings of the exotic animals and extraordinary people she’s encountered in this often-overlooked part of the country.
El Puente’s work has hosted several hundred volunteers and served tens of thousands of meals, and provides school supplies to more than 300 students each year. All of this hard, humble work even earned the praise of the Vice President of Costa Rica, whose visit to El Puente is included in this extraordinary memoir.
According to current El Puente Executive Director Kent Gledhill, “Nanci lives life expecting to encounter beautiful stories. When that is your expectation, this is the result. What an inspiration!” Indeed, much of the book tells the tales of El Puente neighbors and guests whose lives have been impacted for the better: Constantino’s spiritual growth, Jack’s turn to kindness, Kattia’s inspiration to rescue animals, Randy’s miracle cure by a Bribri healer, 100-year-old Faustina learning that the Earth is round, and many more.
20% of all profits from the sale of The Bribri and The Bridge will be donated to El Puente, and for the benefit of the environment, all physical copies will be printed on forest-friendly paper.
